Economic and fault stability analysis of geothermal field development in direct-use hydrothermal reservoirs

چکیده

Abstract The installed capacity of geothermal systems for direct use heat is increasing worldwide. As their number and density increasing, the interaction with subsurface faults becomes more important as they could lead to safety risks from induced seismicity. Assessment management such essential further development extension energy heating. At same time, economic output can be marginal hence often supported by subsidy schemes. A combined assessment fault stability help operators balance aspects, but this currently not common practice. In study we present a methodology assess field plans based on Net Present Value (NPV) using reservoir simulations fluvial, heterogeneous sandstone representative majority direct-use Dutch systems. We find that highest friction coefficient leading exceedance Mohr–Coulomb failure criteria in 0.17; values encountered clay-rich gouges. Similar or lower permeability compared results no changes an increase respectively both NPV larger Fault-to-Well Distance (FWD). Fault higher than minor smaller FWD. Our demonstrate analysis thermal, hydraulic, mechanical supports responsible viable resources at large scale. importance high spatial supporting stress data will better understanding quantification effects operations.

Geothermal Reservoirs in Hydrothermal Convection Systems

T Abstract Geothermal reservoirs commonly exist in hydrothermal convection systems involving fluid circulation downward in areas of recharge and upwards in areas of discharge. Because such reservoirs are not isolated from their surroundings, the nature of thermal and hydrologic connections with the rest of the system may have significant effects on the natural state of the reservoir and on its ...

The Stability of Two-phase Geothermal Reservoirs

.n a number of geothermal systems, including the 3eysers (Ca), Lardarello (Italy) and Tongonan :Philippines), well logs indicate that in some parts of he reservoir, a two-phase vapouror liquid-dominated -egion is overlain by a colder liquid saturated zone. The stability of such systems is intriguing. Schubert md Straus (1980) have described how a liquid layer nay overly a model superheated vapo...

Analysis of fluid injection-induced fault reactivation and seismic slip in geothermal reservoirs

We explore the issue of fault reactivation induced in enhanced geothermal systems by fluid injection. Specifically, we investigate the role of late stage activation by thermal drawdown. A Thermal-Hydrological-Mechanical simulator incorporating a ubiquitous joint constitutive model is used to systematically simulate the seismic slip of an embedded critically stressed strike-slip fault. We examin...
